"Is An Engagement Session Necessary?" | For Brides

You did it!  You're newly engaged and you just chose your wedding photographer.  Most photographers include an engagement session in their wedding collections (or offer an a la carte option) and it's never too soon to start planning for that session!  Yes.  Seriously.

While some brides may be thrilled to get a date on the books, others may try to forgo the engagement session altogether, but I want to tell you why that isn't always the best idea.  While you may feel uneasy in front of the camera, this is actually the very best time to get comfortable with each other and your photographer.

Setting aside time early on not only builds your relationship with your photographer and confidence in their ability to capture your authentic nature and love story, it allows you some time to "practice."  Each photographer leads and directs differently and it's important to get to know how yours will interact with you.

I personally love to spend time prompting you to interact by asking questions, allowing you to get cozy as well as move around and lightly directing your body language.  This gives you a wide array of images in your gallery from candid and casual to classic and romantic.

When the wedding day rolls around, I promise you'll be happy you took that time to prepare and become comfortable in front of the camera.  You only have one shot when it comes to your wedding day, so I do all that I can to ensure it is fun, relaxed and memorable.  I want you to look and feel your very best!  Book your session, enjoy the time together and love and share your photos leading up to the wedding.  This is an exciting time and it deserves to be celebrated any way possible!

Engagement photos are also great for things like save the date announcements and guestbooks displayed at wedding receptions.  If you're planning to use them for either of these things, plan ahead!

Next time I'll be sharing about how to plan for your engagement session!
