What is a fine art film photographer anyway?

You've probably heard me call myself a fine art film photographer from time to time on my website or social media.  It's a mouthful and it's a term that gets thrown around occasionally in the photography world, so I wanted to start by taking some time to explain what it means to me and what that will look like for you, as clients and friends.

Before your session or before each different chapter of your wedding day story, I think through the art I want to create for you.  I take into consideration who you are, what you value, how you interact with those you love and hold dear, the aesthetic you've chosen whether it be your personal style or the wedding experience you've thoughtfully created, the heirlooms you want to hold in your own hands and pass down to your children.  It is about so much more than just clicking a shutter and praying that everyone will have their eyes open--it is the vision before the moment begins to unfold, the subtle direction, the way the environment enhances the subject, the use of lighting, technique and editing to create something thoughtful and beautiful.

With fine art photography the photographer tends to take on more creative control when it comes to how the setting should look and feel.  Things like location, wardrobe and styling are discussed in order to create one cohesive final gallery of images.

Oh, and did I mention that I also incorporate the use of real, tangible film into your day?  Nothing captures the moment exactly how we are experiencing it in real time quite like film does.  It also causes you to be deliberate, the slow down and to savor each moment.

Over the years I have handcrafted a process that allows us to mesh your needs and desires with my creativity and direction to make something truly unique to you.

My goal is to know you, love you and serve you well through the process.  This is my full time job and I couldn't be more thrilled when a couple involves me in every aspect of their experience.  I love sending inspiration, sharing the vendors I know do an amazing job each and every time, answering quick messages about which dress flatters you, the florals that make the bouquet pop and how to incorporate sentimental family items.

Together we truly can create something beautiful and meaningful that you will want to look back on as each year passes.  I want you to hold your photos regularly, I want them to evoke emotion and cause you to remember how the day felt.  I want your images to feel like a dream that you got to actually live.
